About LUNULA

Why do we treat the skin on our scalp so differently from the skin on our faces? The scalp can age up to six times faster than skin on the face, causing hair to lose density and strength over time. As it ages, the scalp also becomes more sensitive to styling products and hair color. 

LUNULA is formulated with an innovative approach to scalp health informed by modern botanical science and inspired by the herbalism of ancestral Norse healers who created topical remedies from cannabis to treat ailments, strengthen hair and improve skin vitality. The LUNULA crescent logo echoes crescent moon amulets these healers wore that symbolized fertility, growth and abundance.

LUNULA scalp and hair care products are designed to be healing, which means they are cruelty-free, vegan, color-safe, and free of synthetic fragrances, dyes, common allergens, gluten, sulfates, parabens, silicone, petroleum, formaldehyde, and phthalates.

 

Meet Our Founder Amy

I began working as a hair stylist in 2001. After fifteen years of working with commercial hair care products, I developed a chemical allergy that has affected my health in many ways, including asthma, autoimmune disorders, chronic skin conditions, and infertility. Many of my colleagues in the salon industry suffer from similar health issues. I began to wonder how the toxins we are exposed to might also be affecting my clients, many of whom experience dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, alopecia, and other skin conditions.

I wanted to bring awareness to the toxicity of most mainstream hair products and help heal the damage they have done. That’s why I decided to create a healthy hair care product that could relieve these ailments and improve hair, starting with scalp health. While there are many clean, plant-based products available for facial skin care, such options did not yet exist in the hair care industry. 

This is how LUNULA was born.
